Ya DreamHost is great isn't it... I've still heard a lot of good about bluehost too.

I noticed that you aren't using the new method of referral links to improve your dreamhost referrals

I did a whole analysis of a bunch of hosting providers and the features that they offer, and I also narrowed by choices down to Bluehost and Dreamhost. I went with Bluehost in the end for one reason: technical support. Bluehost can be reached 24/7, while Dreamhost only provides email support. When my site has problems or I need to solve an issue immediately, I want to know that I can reach someone at any time. I've worked with ISPs that didn't have that type of service, and it was terrible.

So far Bluehost has been pretty decent. The biggest drawback is their really sloooowww control panel.

Well, having been with Dreamhost for a few months now, I can say that the feature set is their best asset. I haven't had to test their technical support yet as their Wiki has, so far, covered everything I've needed.

I agree with you that technical support is one of (if not) the most important service of a web host.

I host this blog with U2-Web. Their transfer speed and uptime is much better than Dreamhost but above all their technical support is phenomenal (lightning ticket turnaround times with real technical know-how). It's for this reason that I'm using them for live deployment and Dreamhost for SVN hosting, beta testing and temporary parking.

Seeing as Terry mentioned the referral system, if anyone wants to signup to Dreamhost you can use my referral promo code of HARISTV to receive a large discount off the price.

Is this comparison still valid? I am curious, as my Bluehost account is up in 3 months, and while I have been happy with Bluehost for the past 2 years, like everyone I am always looking for a better bargin!

Hi Jim,

Since writing this post I haven't been following the differences. I can only say that I'm still happy with Dreamhost for the purposes I signed up for.

Sorry I can't give you an up to date comparison.

I'm starting to not like DH after being with them for a year. Too many problems!! all that space? Who needs it if there servers are always bogged down and/or offline... Serious. You can't do anything worthwhile on DH. Service reliability is better than oodles of space and options you can never access because its slow or offline! ^_^

I have a site with a .tv extension. I thought I read somewhere that BH does not work with these? Is this true?

What's the deal with BH and .tv???

Never dreamhost.
I've used about 10 web hostings.
One day, when I was with Dreamhost, some of my files has been deleted all of a sudden. However, they never apologized. They told me just upload the files again. That's it.
